Starts on the 13th January 6-9pm
Wipe away the January blues and learn a new skill!
Join us for a fun 10-week Introduction to Printmaking course at Centrespace Studios, Bristol. Perfect for beginners and experienced makers alike, this course will guide you through a range of exciting printmaking techniques in a relaxed, playful, and supportive environment.
Together, we’ll explore monoprinting, relief printing, drypoint, and collagraph, building your confidence and creative expression as you go.
Alternatively, if you’d prefer, you can use the 10 weeks as a chance to work on a totally self-led project, with Jemma on hand to support your ideas. If this appeals to you, please email Jemma in advance to check that your project can be accommodated.
Course outline:
Weeks 1–2: Monoprinting Experiment with the spontaneity of monoprinting using additive (inking) and subtractive (wiping away ink) methods. Try stencils, direct drawing, and embrace the unpredictability of this lively process.
Weeks 3–4: Relief Printing Learn the art of carving linoleum blocks and explore mark-making to create bold, textured relief prints. A great chance to play with pattern and form.
Weeks 5–6: Drypoint Printing Discover the rich, velvety lines of drypoint, an intaglio technique that involves incising directly into a plate. Push your creativity and bring individuality into each piece.
Weeks 7–8: Collagraph Printing Create textured collagraph plates using layered materials and found objects. This tactile process celebrates experimentation and the joy of discovering unexpected results.
Weeks 9–10: Self-led Project Bring together everything you’ve learnt in a personal project, with guidance and support along the way.
Important note: there will be no class on 27th January.
All materials are provided. Please note that we don't have wheelchair access - this is something we are working on.
