Starts Tuesday 13th January 2-5pm
Discover the wonderful world of etching in this 5-week introductory course, perfect for beginners eager to explore this traditional printmaking technique. Using aluminium plates and copper sulphate, this course offers a safer alternative to traditional etching methods, making it ideal for home practice. The naturally occurring grain in aluminium eliminates the need for rosin, allowing for beautiful tonal values with ease.
In Week 1, you'll start with hard ground etching, learning the basics of materials, safety, and creating your first etched designs.
Week 2 explores self-aquatinting, utilising aluminium's natural properties to create rich tonal variations.
Week 3 delves into sugarlift techniques, adding unique textures and depth to your work.
By Week 4 and 5, you'll focus on finalising your plates and producing a small edition of prints, bringing together all the skills you've learned.
Each session combines hands-on practice with guidance from Jemma, ensuring you gain confidence and proficiency in various etching techniques.
By the end of the course, you'll have a portfolio of original etched artworks and the knowledge to continue your etching journey at home!
There is no session on the 27th January.
Please note there is no wheelchair access in the studio (this is something we are working on).
